We are proud to introduce our collaboration with Hope For Podencos to shine a light on the plight of the Podenco; one of Spain’s most neglected and abandoned hunting dogs. Too often left to starve or suffer, their reality is brutal… but there’s always hope.
Hope For Podencos are a UK based charity that are working to help, rescue and rehabilitate the "invisible dogs" of Spain. Finding safe, loving homes, they are giving these incredible dogs the future they deserve.

What is a Podenco?
Podencos are an ancient breed of hunting dog found mainly in Spain. They’re fast, intelligent, and incredibly loyal. Sadly, they’re often called the “Invisible Dogs” because thousands are abandoned or killed every year after hunting season ends. Despite this, Podencos make loving, gentle companions when given the chance.
The Plight Of The Podenco
Podencos are sometimes called the “Invisible Dogs”. In Spain, many are bred and used for hunting. At the end of each hunting season (often February), it’s estimated that 60,000–80,000 hunting dogs (Podencos and Galgos) are abandoned, discarded, or killed.
These dogs frequently experience extreme neglect: chained outdoors with minimal shelter, deprived of food and water, lacking veterinary care, forced to live in squalid, overcrowded kennels, or even subject to brutality and cruel killing methods.
Many Podencos arrive at rescue with severe injuries — broken limbs, embedded ropes or chains, malnutrition, and untreated illnesses.
Yet despite it all, they often show remarkable resilience, capacity to recover, and loyalty once given a chance.
